Description

A bushy but very manageable twining vine

Nothing decorates a country gate or a rustic mailbox as cheerily as a twining black-eyed Susan vine, with masses of blooms all summer and large, lush foliage. Managing to look very bushy but never getting out of hand, this orange-flowered selection is ideal for growing up through fences and gates, pillars and poles, and is especially effective in containers, where its very full habit looks incredibly lush.

Susie Orange Black-Eye is a selection of the traditional black-eyed Susan vine that gardeners have loved for generations. These 1- to 2-inch blooms arise very profusely, facing out from the vine. Tube-shaped and richly colored, they sport golden-orange petals surrounding a violet-black throat. So eye-catching and profuse, all season long.

Susie Orange Black-Eye reaches 5 to 6 feet long and about 2 to 3 feet wide, or somewhat smaller in compact containers. It can be trailed from baskets, twined up through a trellis or pergola, or threaded through horizontal fencing. Charming and so easy in full sunshine and any well-drained soil.

Plant this annual in full sun. It grows rapidly from a direct sowing, or may be started ahead. Trouble free and very robust.
